How to Pack Furniture Correctly on Moving Home


Furniture is one of the most important things of every household. A residence is not complete without furniture. There may be tables, chairs, sofas, beds, cabinets, stools, computer desk, writing desk, etc in a household. As these are heavy and bulky it may be very daunting and channeling task to pack or make ready them for a move. Moving furniture from one place to another especially for a long distance would be definitely the stressful task. If they are not properly prepared or packed then they may be damaged in transition. But no body wants to see damages at all. Here are some great tips on how to pack furniture correctly and make them ready for a big move. Have a look at them.

First of all you need to make an inventory of furniture you will need to transfer to new place. Consider how much time you will need to dissemble furniture, if possible. Think what you can do well in advance. Doing this will help you figure out what specific packing materials you will need for secure wrapping and packing; and how much to get. Get all the all packing supplies and tools for disassembling well in advance. Bubble wrap, blank newsprint papers, old newspapers, plastic stretch wrap, zippered plastic bags, sandwich bags, sofa/mattress cover, packing tape, old blankets/towels, etc are some items you are likely to need.

If you are going to wrap, pack and make ready to move your furniture then make sure you have cleaned them well in advance. You will definitely not like to pack up dusty furniture and then clean it when you move into new residence.

You should prepare the furniture pieces first that can be detached or disassembled. Disassembling the furniture may consume you time so you need to begin the process well in advance as earlier as possible. Detach any part of furniture that can be. You can remove legs, glass tops, shelves, arms, bed frames, etc. If you have detached large furniture into pieces then it would be easy to pack them. Keep plastic zippered bag handy and keep all the hardware including nut and bolts in it.
                                    
Do not directly apply the packing tape on the surface of your furniture. It is best to wrap the furniture pieces with bubble wrap or blank newspapers and then the packing tape. After secure wrapping of furniture pieces you should again pack these all pieces with towels or blankets to provide them proper cushioning so that they cannot be damaged in transition. Appling wax to fine wood furnishings to protect against scratches.

Pack cushions, pillows and other accessories of your furniture in plastic garbage box. You should pack mattress and sofas in especially made plastic covers that will protect them. If an item is very heavy, use a dolly to help you bring it out to the truck. This will help you to avoid damage to your large items and to prevent personal injuries. Never try to move a heavy piece of furniture. Get help of at least 4 people to lift and move heavy furniture.
